South Korean President Lee Jae Myung ordered a thorough investigation and countermeasures on October 4 after receiving a briefing on personal-data breaches at financial institutions and public agencies. Senior presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said he instructed officials to treat the incidents seriously and establish response measures. The breaches have affected major banks and spread to savings banks and capital companies. Financial Services Commission Chairman Lee Eog-weon and Financial Supervisory Service Governor Lee Chan-jin held an emergency meeting with the heads of affected firms to discuss the incidents.
