Liberman's Formal Plan Keeps Israeli Security Control and Gives Jordan Civil Policing

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Avigdor Liberman in a dark suit and red tie against Jerusalem stone buildings, adapted from an archival September 2010 portrait; contextual artwork, not a depiction of the new plan announcement.

Avigdor Liberman's Yisrael Beytenu party published a formal proposal on Sunday that would retain Israeli security responsibility throughout Judea and Samaria while assigning Jordan civil policing and administration in Areas A and B. The proposed Israeli-Jordanian confederation would give Jordan responsibility for public order and Palestinians' daily civilian affairs. The document also calls for dissolving the Palestinian Authority and cancelling the Oslo agreements. Liberman says the framework is intended to prevent a Palestinian state and keep Hamas or Islamic Jihad from exploiting a governing vacuum.
