Central Elections Committee chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg ordered National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to remove a campaign video showing his encounter with imprisoned Hamas terrorist Hassan Salameh. The ruling accepted a petition filed by the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel and imposed legal expenses on Ben-Gvir’s Otzma Yehudit party. In the video, Ben-Gvir threatened to have Salameh executed if he became defense minister. Salameh was responsible for the 1996 Line 18 suicide bombings in Jerusalem. Ben-Gvir called the decision puzzling and said publishing such videos helps deter terrorists planning future attacks.
