Lapid Says Election Will Proceed After Netanyahu Security Briefing

Opposition leader Yair Lapid said after a late Tuesday security briefing with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel's election would proceed on schedule in any scenario. He pointed to municipal elections held during wartime. Lapid's aides said the assessments presented to him did not, in their view, substantiate Netanyahu's warning that enemies might attack Israel before the vote. Lapid also said security threats should be handled professionally and criticized the use of an air base for election messaging. He cited a shortage of 15,000 Haredi recruits, a figure he attributed to the military chief, and urged Netanyahu to enlist them.
