South Africa will raise 93-octane petrol prices by R3.12 a litre and 95-octane prices by R3.33 from October 7, Minister Gwede Mantashe announced on October 5. Diesel with 0.05% sulphur will rise by 284.38 cents a litre, and the 0.005% grade by 324.38 cents. The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources attributed the increases to higher international crude and product prices, with average Brent rising from $87.89 to $101 a barrel. It cited uncertainty over oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, higher shipping costs and declining inventories. District price schedules are due on October 6.
