Trump Says Threats Prompted U.S. Bomber Withdrawal From RAF Fairford

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of a B-52 bomber viewed head-on on the RAF Fairford runway, with broad wings, landing lights, grassy foreground and engine-exhaust haze, adapted from an archival April 2019 photograph as base context; it does not depict the October 2026 withdrawal or suspected attack plot.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that threats prompted the removal of American bombers from RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, offering an explicit explanation for the weekend withdrawal. He said the aircraft had not departed by accident and that moving them avoided leaving them exposed to an enemy. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had earlier declined to link the aircraft movement directly to a suspected attack plot. The Pentagon said on Sunday that all bombers deployed to Fairford had returned to their U.S. home stations and retained global strike capability.
