Pentagon Reportedly Orders Preparations for Renewed Major Combat Operations Against Iran

U.S. officials say the Pentagon instructed Central Command several days ago to complete preparations for renewed major combat operations against Iran. The directive included no attack date, and President Donald Trump has made no final decision. U.S. and Israeli sources say operations could precede the U.S. midterm elections, potentially even Israel’s elections a week earlier, while people familiar with the matter say possible targets include Iranian energy, infrastructure and nuclear facilities. Renewed operations would probably involve U.S.–Israeli coordination and Israeli military participation; a Pentagon official said its role is to develop military options for the president.
