Rubio Declines to Link Fairford Bomber Withdrawal Directly to Suspected Plot

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio declined Monday to directly connect the withdrawal of American B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford with the suspected plot near the British base the previous week. He described military aircraft movements as regular resource allocations and rotations involving exercises, redeployments, aircraft and personnel changes. Rubio affirmed confidence in the security of U.S. bases and praised British cooperation in the investigation. The bombers returned to their U.S. home stations over the weekend. Fairford, in Gloucestershire, had supported American bombing runs against Iran earlier this year.
