IRGC Navy Says Gas Tanker Caught Fire in Hormuz, Threatens Ships Across Region

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy claimed on October 9 that a large ship carrying liquefied petroleum gas suffered an extensive fire in its engine room and propulsion system while attempting passage south of the Strait of Hormuz. It described the route as unauthorized and blamed U.S. threats and pressure on shipping and insurance companies. The navy threatened sanctions against companies and punitive measures against their vessels, saying its enforcement would no longer be limited to Hormuz. These are Iranian claims; the statement does not establish who caused the fire.
