Bangkok Chabad Emissary Says Activities Continue After Thai Searches

Rabbi Nechemia Wilhelm said on October 9 that Chabad’s Bangkok activities continue normally after Thai authorities searched three Jewish institutions the previous day. He said representatives cooperated fully, supplied requested documents and had “nothing to hide.” Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation is examining suspected use of Thai nominees to evade foreign-business restrictions. Authorities said documents concerned more than 61 companies registered at Gan Chabad’s address; Wilhelm said the premises were an independent accountant’s office serving numerous companies. He said about 500 people were expected for Shabbat and there was no impediment to their attendance.
