Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed said during Michigan’s October 8 debate that he would not support supplying defensive weapons to Israel if Iran or another state attacked it. Asked whether Israel or Iran posed the greater threat to the United States, he called the question a “ridiculous hypothetical” and said both had “proven dangerous in their own way.” El-Sayed advocated diplomacy with Iran. Republican rival Mike Rogers affirmed his support for Israel, saying talk of using nuclear weapons would be a red line while adding that he had never heard Israel propose it.
