Republican Michigan Senate candidate Mike Rogers confronted Democratic opponent Abdul El-Sayed during a televised debate in their contest for a U.S. Senate seat on October 8. Rogers told El-Sayed that “Hamas, Hezbollah and al-Qaeda bought you.” The accusation came during the candidates’ first debate in Grand Rapids, Michigan, scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday evening. The allegation remains Rogers’s claim: the contemporaneous account did not provide evidence substantiating it or include El-Sayed’s response to the remark.
