Health Ministry Warns of Rabies Exposure After Infected Jackal Found in Kiryat Shmona

The Health Ministry warned on October 11 that a rabies-infected jackal had been found near the hesder yeshiva and Simtat HaNevi’im in Kiryat Shmona. No human exposures were known when the statement was issued, and an epidemiological investigation was continuing. The alert covers people or pets that contacted the jackal or another stray animal in the area between September 21 and October 5, inclusive. The ministry urged potentially exposed people to seek urgent assessment for preventive treatment at a health bureau, or a hospital emergency department outside working hours. It also asked parents to check possible contact by children and pet owners to consult their municipal veterinarian.
