Heritage Minister and Ramat Gan Mayor Agree to Seek Alternative Bus Terminal Site

Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu and Ramat Gan Mayor Carmel Shama-Hacohen have agreed to seek an alternative to the planned bus terminal at the Winter compound that would preserve its archaeological remains. The commitment followed a site visit at the mayor's invitation, and calls for coordination with the Transport Ministry and professional teams. Israel Antiquities Authority representatives described a seventh-to-ninth-century commercial and industrial complex containing streets, shops, warehouses, kilns and drainage systems. The municipality opposes covering the excavation and wants public access to the remains, while any alternative must meet transport needs.
