Gustavo Petro Links ICC Sanctions to Proceedings Against Netanyahu

Gustavo Petro linked U.S. sanctions against the International Criminal Court to proceedings against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a post published early October 13, Israel time. Quoting the court's announcement of Navi Pillay's visit, Petro characterized the proceedings as a genocide case and claimed they explained the sanctions. The ICC said Pillay met senior officials and staff at its headquarters. Washington's October 9 announcement instead cited defense of U.S. sovereignty and citizens. In his earlier response to the 2024 warrants, Netanyahu rejected the court's accusations as false and said Israel sought to avoid civilian casualties while fighting Hamas.
