LEAO Wins Silver Scroll With Award's First All-Samoan Song

LEAO won the APRA Silver Scroll Award for “Lalelei” at Auckland's Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre on October 14. The song became the prize's first winner written entirely in Gagana Samoa. The song was written by David Feauai-Afaese, Navakatoa Tekela-Pule, Levi Gemmell and Larsen Taylor. Neil Finn presented the main songwriting award at the 61st annual ceremony, which celebrated Aotearoa songwriters and included six major prizes. The evening also featured tributes marking APRA's 100th anniversary of representing songwriters and composers, alongside awards for Māori songwriting, contemporary composition and screen music.
