India Raises Petrol Export Tax to ₹2.5 a Litre, Cuts Diesel Levy to ₹8.5

India raised the windfall gains tax on petrol exports to ₹2.5 per litre and cut the diesel export levy to ₹8.5 from ₹16 per litre on October 15. The revised rates take effect on October 16, 2026, according to a statement by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs. The tax on aviation turbine fuel exports remains unchanged. Existing duties on petrol and diesel cleared for domestic consumption also remain unchanged. The government reviews windfall tax rates every fortnight using average crude oil prices over the preceding 15 days.
