Lula Pledges Constitutional Amendment for Free Weekend Public Transport Across Brazil

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on October 15 that he would send Congress a proposed constitutional amendment guaranteeing free public transport on weekends in every Brazilian city with such services. In an official social-media post, he linked the proposal to ending the six-days-on, one-day-off working schedule. Lula said workers should be able to take their children to parks, visit friends, explore their cities and spend time with their families. His announcement was a pledge to submit a proposal, rather than the enactment or start of free weekend transport.
