Simon Weakens to Tropical Storm South of Baja California Sur

Simon weakened to a tropical storm south of Baja California Sur, Mexico, the National Hurricane Center said in its 03:00 UTC advisory on October 15. Maximum sustained winds were 100 km/h, with the center 445 km south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas. No coastal watches or warnings were in effect, but the center advised continued monitoring in Baja California Sur. It forecast slow, erratic movement through Thursday night, followed by movement north or northwest beginning Friday. Rainfall could reach isolated totals of 3 inches through early Saturday, while swells could cause dangerous surf and rip currents along west-central Mexico and Baja California Sur.
