DSS Arrests Faisal Maina in Abuja, Security Sources Say

Security sources say Nigeria’s Department of State Services arrested Faisal Maina in Abuja’s Karsana area and handed him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The sources said intelligence indicated that Maina, son of former Pension Reform Task Team chairman Abdulrasheed Maina, had secretly returned to Nigeria. He had been on the run since 2020 during a three-count money-laundering prosecution and was convicted in absentia in 2021. The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in November 2022 but reduced his longest prison sentence from 14 years to seven, citing his status as a first offender.
