Ethiopia Establishes Six-Month Caretaker Administration for Tigray

Ethiopia's federal government has established a six-month caretaker administration for Tigray, the Prime Minister's Office announced on October 16. The administration is tasked with restoring public institutions and essential services, repairing war-damaged infrastructure and facilitating the return of displaced residents. It must also prepare free and transparent regional elections within six months, according to the announcement. Working under federal direction, it will oversee routine governance and election preparations. The government said it should avoid long-term strategic decisions until an elected regional administration takes over.
