Waymo Targets 2028 Toronto Robotaxi Launch, With Manual Testing to Begin Soon

Waymo said on October 16 that it aims to welcome its first Toronto robotaxi riders in 2028. Its vehicles will appear on local streets in the coming days, initially driven manually for high-definition mapping and testing with trained autonomous specialists behind the wheel. Toronto-based Element Fleet Management will support operations, including vehicle maintenance, charging infrastructure and energy management. Waymo said it, Element and other partners plan to invest in hundreds of roles over time, including validation driving, fleet maintenance and customer service. The preparations precede the planned launch of fully autonomous ride-hailing in the Canadian city.
