Argentina’s Justicialist Party Calls for Cristina Kirchner’s Release on Loyalty Day

Argentina’s Justicialist Party called on supporters to mobilize for former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s release and an end to her lifetime ban on public office in a Loyalty Day statement on October 17. The party compared her detention with Juan Domingo Perón’s imprisonment before the October 17, 1945 mobilization. It criticized restrictions on visitors and described her disqualification as political proscription intended to prevent voters from choosing her again. The statement urged party members, workers, organizations and other democratic sectors to organize and unite behind those demands.
