At least 272 people were arrested across France by midafternoon on Saturday, the Interior Ministry said, as cost-of-living demonstrations were accompanied by arson, looting and clashes with police. Rioters set Lyon's tourism office on Place Bellecour ablaze and forced their way into Marseille City Hall, while police used tear gas and water cannon against masked groups in Paris. The protests brought together students, labour unions and Yellow Vest supporters over rising prices and public services. Peaceful participants also continued with organised marches.
