UAE Doctor and Schools Report Children’s Sleep and Concentration Problems

A Dubai paediatrician has reported seeing more children with sleep disruption and other difficulties associated with prolonged screen use, while school leaders say tiredness and concentration problems are increasingly apparent in classrooms. Dr Sudha Rao of Aster Clinic in Al Jaddaf highlighted late-night device use, fatigue and behavioural difficulties. GEMS International School principal Nevita Pandya said content and activities displaced by screens matter alongside time spent on devices. GEMS Dubai American Academy superintendent Helen Pereira-Raso said school phone restrictions need support from home routines, while noting that several factors can contribute to pupils’ difficulties.
