Kenyan Court Convicts Paul Mackenzie of 191 Murders in Shakahola Case

A Kenyan court convicted Paul Mackenzie and 28 other defendants of 191 counts of murder on Monday, involving the deaths of 190 children and one adult. Judge Diana Kavedza Mochache delivered the verdict at Mombasa Law Courts, finding that an organized hierarchy enforced fatal fasting among followers linked to Shakahola Forest in Kilifi County. The judge rejected the defense that the children had voluntarily fasted to death. Mitigation is scheduled for October 30, with sentencing set for November 6.
