Nariño Officials Confirm 14 Dead and End Search After Gold Mine Collapse

Nariño officials confirmed that 14 people died and seven were injured after a gold mine collapsed in Santa Bárbara de Iscuandé, Colombia, on October 19. Departmental Peace and Human Rights Secretary Álex González said four of the injured were in serious condition and that the search had ended, with no additional missing people reported. Authorities were arranging air transport to Tumaco for the seriously injured. The collapse affected open-pit mining beside the Iscuandé River. Colombia's ombudsman's office called for military air support, hospital-network activation and safe humanitarian access to the area.
