Police Fire Tear Gas at EndSARS Memorial in Lagos, Dispersing Participants

Police fired tear gas at Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos on Tuesday morning, dispersing a gathering marking the sixth anniversary of the EndSARS protests. Among the participants were Lagos governorship candidates Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and Funso Doherty, along with residents and journalists. The civic group Enough is Enough organised the procession to lay wreaths for victims of the October 2020 protests. Participants fled before the wreaths could be laid. The original EndSARS demonstrations opposed police brutality, particularly abuses associated with the subsequently disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
