South Korea’s Military Chief Orders Firm Response After North Korean Border Threats

South Korea’s military chief, Gen. Jin Yong-sung, ordered troops on October 20 to respond firmly to further North Korean provocations, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said. During a visit to a central-front unit, he chaired a meeting of operational commanders and reviewed activity near the Military Demarcation Line, which divides the two Koreas. He also called for consistent responses to border incursions and armistice violations and stronger operational initiative in the Demilitarized Zone. The orders followed Kim Yo-jong’s October 19 warning that North Korea was considering additional tactical strike assets near the border and resuming propaganda loudspeaker broadcasts.
