Kim Yo Jong Says Border Loudspeakers Will Be Ready Within Days

Kim Yo Jong, a department director of North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party, said loudspeakers directed toward South Korea would enter standby “in a matter of days.” In a statement issued at dawn on October 22 in Pyongyang, she also said unspecified “responsive means” would be placed on alert along the southern border. She said border fortification work would continue and warned South Korean authorities against interfering with it. Her latest statement followed an October 21 announcement that psychological-warfare loudspeakers would operate along the entire border during October, but it did not confirm that broadcasting had begun.
