New Zealand Labour Spokesman Backs International Action on Superintelligent AI

New Zealand Labour technology spokesman Reuben Davidson backed international discussion of restrictions on unmonitored superintelligent AI in a newly published interview, while stopping short of promising a moratorium. He said the issue would need rapid discussion if Labour entered government and criticized the current government's AI preparedness. Labour's existing policy proposes an Office of AI to coordinate policy and an online-safety regulator. Its September plan also includes a copyright framework to protect creators and requirements for large data centres to meet their own costs.
