Nigerian Court Rejects Wisdom Party’s Bid to Compel Electoral Registration

Nigeria’s Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking an order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register Wisdom Party. Judge James Omotosho found that the case brought by Chinasa Nwekeke, the association’s interim national chair, lacked merit and had become academic. The judge also upheld INEC’s authority to charge administrative fees for registering political parties. In opposing the suit, the commission said the association’s letter of intent did not include its proposed party symbol.
