Trump Urges Data Centers to Pay Host Communities a Dividend

U.S. President Donald Trump urged data-center companies on October 21 to pay a dividend to host communities or their residents to improve acceptance of new projects. In a social-media post, he said he had seen unpopular developments gain support after financial agreements. Trump also asserted that new, large data centers must generate their own electricity and give or sell surplus power to local communities or the grid. He predicted the arrangement could lower electricity prices, but did not specify payment amounts, eligibility rules or an implementation timetable.
