Argentina’s Deputies Send Household Debt Bills Back to Committee

Argentina’s Chamber of Deputies returned household-debt proposals to committee early on October 22, passing the motion by 121 votes to 117 with five abstentions. La Libertad Avanza deputy Silvana Giudici requested the move after more than two and a half hours of debate. Neither the governing bloc nor opposition groups secured enough support to pass their competing proposals. The government’s bill focused on financial education and clearer loan information, while an opposition proposal sought a 180-day emergency and refinancing relief for qualifying debts. No household-debt bill passed, and no definite date was set for renewed consideration.
