Ikea Workers in Auckland Plan Four-Hour Strike Over Pay

About 300 workers at Ikea's Sylvia Park store in Auckland plan a four-hour strike from noon on Saturday, October 24, during New Zealand's Labour Weekend. Workers First Union deputy secretary Rudd Hughes said 95% of union members who voted backed industrial action after eight months of negotiations. The union says the pay offer falls below inflation and is seeking weekend penalty rates comparable to those Ikea pays in Australia. The workers plan to picket outside the store; Ikea had been approached for comment, with no response reported.
