Taiwan Issues Land Warning as Typhoon Champi Approaches

Taiwan's Central Weather Administration issued a sea and land warning for Typhoon Champi on October 22, placing Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, Taichung, Nantou, Kaohsiung and Pingtung under the land warning. Its afternoon bulletin put the storm's centre 490 km east-southeast of Eluanbi at 14:00 local time, with sustained winds near the centre of 51 metres per second. The storm was moving northwest and expected to turn north-northwest. The agency warned of waves above 3 metres around Taiwan on October 22 and 23, with waves above 6 metres possible along eastern coasts, Keelung's northern coast and the Hengchun Peninsula.
