China’s First AI Feature Opens in Cinemas as Advance Ticket Sales Lag

Sanxingdui: Future Past, described as China’s first fully AI-generated feature film, opened in mainland cinemas on October 23. Ticketing platform Maoyan listed more than 10,000 Friday screenings, but advance sales totalled only 65,000 yuan as of Thursday evening. Bona said production took more than two years, involved nearly 100 people and cost over 10 million yuan. In an interview, Bona executive Jiang Defu said the company wanted audiences to watch the film and offer criticism to help guide future projects.
