Nigeria’s Justice Minister Says 653 Convicted in Latest Terrorism Trials

Nigeria's Attorney-General and Justice Minister Lateef Fagbemi said 653 suspects had been convicted in ongoing mass terrorism trials at the Federal High Court. Speaking on Friday, October 23, he said 1,060 suspects were brought for trial in the 11th phase, scheduled for October 19–24. He also reported seven acquittals and 27 discharges. Fagbemi said proceedings were continuing and a final tally would follow after the exercise concluded on Saturday. He said private lawyers and the Legal Aid Council represented defendants, with defence lawyers visiting detention facilities and preparing cases.
