Pope Leo XIV Cancels Assisi Visit on Doctors’ Advice After Surgery

Pope Leo XIV will miss the October 27 peace gathering in Assisi on doctors’ advice as he recovers from thoracic surgery, the Holy See Press Office said Friday. Doctors Luigi Carbone and Stefano Margaritora said a scheduled chest X-ray confirmed excellent postoperative progress, but advised against the helicopter journey as a precaution because the operation was recent. Leo will send a message expressing his closeness to organizers and participants instead. The gathering marks the 40th anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Peace convened by John Paul II.
