French Police Fire Tear Gas in Lyon as Cost-of-Living Protests Resume

French police fired tear gas to disperse about 150 protesters near central Lyon on October 24 after they briefly tried to block a road. The incident occurred as fresh demonstrations against the high cost of living began across France. The Rhône prefecture prohibited demonstrations, marches and protest gatherings within a designated central-Lyon perimeter from 10:00 to 23:00 local time. It also imposed a curfew in a smaller part of the Presqu’île from 23:00 on October 24 to 06:00 on October 25. The prefecture said its reinforced security deployment was intended to protect people and property.
