German Police Report Arrest After Fire Engulfs Kehlsteinhaus

Bavarian police reported overnight that a suspicious person had been provisionally detained shortly after a fire broke out at Kehlsteinhaus in Berchtesgaden. Investigators were examining whether the person had any connection to the blaze. No injuries had been reported, and emergency crews found nobody inside. About 200 responders, including firefighters from six municipalities, were deployed; difficult mountain access and conditions requiring heavy breathing apparatus complicated operations. Traunstein criminal police took over the investigation under the local public prosecutor’s direction, while firefighting and inquiries continued.
