Helen Haines Improves to Serious but Stable Condition, Hospital Says

Independent Australian MP Helen Haines's condition has improved from critical to serious but stable, The Alfred hospital in Melbourne said on Saturday morning. Haines, who represents the federal seat of Indi, remains in hospital after being struck by a vehicle outside her electorate office in Wangaratta, Victoria, on Monday, October 19. Police allege the incident was deliberate. Both of her legs were amputated after the incident; her husband, Phil Haines, confirmed the second amputation on Wednesday.
