This week we brought good news for Israel’s sheep sector and for the country’s residents who consume dairy products made from sheep’s milk. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, together with the Ministry of Finance and representatives of the sheep and dairy sectors, signed a historic agreement last night that will enable competition and lower prices on the one hand, and encourage sheep farmers in Israel to continue expanding their farms and their output on the other. During the war, I met people who live and work near the borders, who continued cultivating the land even on the hardest days, protected the communities with their own bodies, and assisted the security forces. These encounters sharpened a clear truth for me: Israel’s farmers are not merely food producers. They protect the land, the communities, the country’s borders, and our ability to produce our own food, in routine times and emergencies. Based on this outlook, together with the Ministry of Finance, we led the new agreement. The agreement opens the sheep-cheese market to competition, will increase variety, and create conditions for lower prices — a real piece of good news for consumers, expected to bring savings of about NIS 60 million a year. This is another practical expression of the National Food Security 2050 Plan, which the Ministry of Agriculture under my leadership has led over the past two years. Responsibility toward the Israeli consumer, alongside preserving local production capacity and ensuring the future of Israeli agriculture. This is how we achieve food security! Translated from HebrewToday in Metula, I met with four of the six Thai workers at farmer Israel Reznik’s farm who were injured by a shell that fell while they were working in the orchard. Two additional workers are still hospitalized after coming out of danger. The moving meeting demonstrated the strong bond between the farmers in Israel and the workers from Thailand. Three of the injured have already returned to work in the orchards in Metula, as farmers restored the orchards and planted new ones. I wish the injured a speedy recovery and success to all the dear farmers of Metula. Good tidings
