Last night I returned to the area of the Dlelat outpost, this time as part of a visit to the Commando Brigade in the Ali Taher Ridge area. The last time I was there was about 30 years ago, when I was a company commander in the 75th Battalion. In the field, I met the amazing fighters of the 36th Division and its units, including the fighters of the Commando Brigade and the Yahalom Unit. I saw up close an operation defined by courage, deception and determination – an operation in which forces from the 36th Division captured the ridge after crossing the Litani from an unexpected direction and surprising the enemy. *Col. M., commander of the Commando Brigade, told me about the brigade’s operations in recent months. It is a model of tactical excellence and determination, producing achievements of immense significance and moves that will be talked about for years to come.* There are moments in service when you realize that you are encountering something greater than yourself. Yesterday was one of them. A remarkable generation of fighters with strong values is rising here, and I am proud to meet you and see the strength, professionalism and spirit you bring. Harel Birenstock, of blessed memory, and M.Sgt. (res.) Tamir Vaknin, of blessed memory, fell, four IDF reserve combat soldiers were seriously wounded.
