Trump made the right decision, to lift all sanctions on Syria, including its designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism. That designation was given in 1979 to the Assad regime, which no longer exists. Syrians have suffered enough. They deserve and need our support.

Too bad Stars and Stripes is getting neutered but great reporters like Lara will keep doing the job, speaking up for our troops and their families: "Nearly six months after the U.S. Navy evacuated 1,300 family members from Bahrain at the start of the Iran war, officials are saying the evacuees cannot return for the foreseeable future and should find new homes elsewhere. The evacuation has left families in limbo and forced military officials to improvise solutions for support programs that were never designed to sustain a displacement lasting this long. Some evacuees say they have spent tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket for basic living expenses. Others are sleeping on the floors of temporary housing, while their cars and furniture are stranded in Bahrain or aboard ships unable to leave the region…"
The Trump administration, having failed to bully allies into participating in its Iran war quagmire, is now offering those allies a golden opportunity to follow Trump into an economic disaster as well. I doubt many will jump at the chance.
Israel attacked Syria for no good reason. The U.S. objected. Israel defended itself by saying it was trying to prevent Syria from accepting troops from Turkey, a NATO ally. In other words, no good reason.
Trump is now admitting there is no Iran strategy other than to continue to do what we are doing forever even though it clearly isn’t working. Sad.
