Nechervan Idris Barzani is a Kurdish politician.
On the occasion of the passing of the well-known Kurdish politician Mehdi Zana, I extend my condolences to Mrs. Leyla Zana and all his family, relatives and friends. He was one of the prominent figures in the Kurdish political struggle in Turkey, spent many long years of his life defending the rights of his people and made many sacrifices along this path. We share the grief of his family, relatives and friends; I hope that Almighty God will comfort his soul with His mercy and grant patience and solace to them all.
Translated from Kurdish (Latin)I welcome the great progress made in the process of integrating the SDF with the Syrian government forces, and the steps taken to implement the agreements concluded between them. I see this as an important development toward strengthening Syria’s security and stability, and I call on all Kurdish parties and Syria’s communities to support these steps and contribute to their success. I highly value and commend the wise vision of His Excellency President Ahmad al-Sharaa, his responsible approach to addressing issues through dialogue and understanding, and his leadership of Syria toward a better future. I also appreciate the role and efforts of Mr. Mazloum Abdi in making this process successful. We look forward to completing this process in a way that marks the beginning of a new phase in Syria, in which the rights of all its citizens and communities are safeguarded, and the country moves toward greater peace, security, stability, recovery, and prosperity.
Translated from ArabicI welcome the decision of the United States of America to remove Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. It is an important step toward supporting Syria's recovery, stability, and prosperity, and strengthening its return to its natural role in the region and the world. We hope that this step will contribute to building a secure future that preserves the rights of all of Syria's components, opens broader prospects for developing its relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and expanding cooperation in all fields in a way that serves our shared interests.
Translated from ArabicToday we commemorate the painful 38th anniversary of the Anfal crime of Badinan, in which, during the final phase of the Anfal campaigns from August 25 to September 6, 1988, the then Iraqi regime targeted the civilians, water, soil, air, and environment of the Badinan region with prohibited weapons. On this anniversary, with respect and dignity, we commemorate all the martyrs and victims of the Badinan Anfal and all those affected by Anfal in Kurdistan, and we bow our heads in respect and tribute before their pure souls. Anfal was a great crime against humanity, recognized by the Iraqi High Criminal Court as genocide, a war crime, and a crime against humanity. Therefore, on this anniversary, we reiterate our demand that the federal government of Iraq provide material and moral compensation to the families of the Anfal victims and all victims of the crimes of the former regime in the Kurdistan Region. At the same time, our efforts to have Anfal recognized internationally as genocide must continue. The past history filled with crime and devastation must become a lasting lesson and warning for Iraq, so that every form of oppression and violation can be prevented from recurring and the constitutional rights of the people of Kurdistan and all communities can be protected. In this regard, we emphasize strengthening solidarity, unity, peaceful coexistence, and cooperation among all political parties so that we can secure a peaceful and stable future for our people. Peace to the pure souls of the martyrs of the Badinan Anfal and all the martyrs of Kurdistan. We will always remember with appreciation and respect the patriotic and humanitarian stance of the people of Erbil and its surroundings, who came to the aid of the displaced people of Badinan during the difficult days of the Jezhnikan camp.
