Ugandan Parliament Approves Troop Deployment to Gaza Stabilization Force

Uganda's parliament approved deploying a contingent of the Uganda People's Defence Forces to Gaza as part of the International Stabilization Force, joining Morocco among the first states to pledge personnel. Defence and Veteran Affairs Minister Kiryowa Kiwanuka tabled the motion under Section 38 of the UPDF Act, saying President Yoweri Museveni had accepted a formal American request conveyed by envoys of U.S. President Donald Trump in July. The 20,000-strong force, led by U.S. Maj. Gen. Jasper Jeffers, is set to enter only after the phased Israeli withdrawal tied to Hamas disarmament. Kiwanuka told lawmakers that Kampala had already held planning meetings with senior UPDF commanders, U.S. Embassy officials and force leaders.
