Basic Law: Israel Lands חוק יסוד: מקרקעי ישראל

Restricts transfers of land owned by the State, the Development Authority or the Jewish National Fund. The restriction has statutory exceptions; it is not a ban on all private land ownership in Israel.

Key provisions

  • Ownership of Israel Lands may not be transferred by sale or any other means
  • Applies to land owned by the State, the Development Authority, and the Jewish National Fund
  • Allows the Knesset to define exceptional categories of land or transactions by separate statute

Context

The 1960 land-law framework established national land administration. Separate legislation in 2009 reformed the administration and allowed ownership transfers to eligible urban leaseholders, subject to conditions.
