Israel's Higher Planning Council approved the zoning plan to expand Route 60 between the British Police Junction and Tapuach Junction to four lanes, two in each direction. The corridor links the Binyamin and Samaria regions and carries tens of thousands of travelers daily; the upgrade is intended to ease congestion, improve road safety and create more continuous travel between Jerusalem and Samaria. The same planning session approved 763 homes, almost all in Eli, including neighborhoods named for fallen Israeli soldiers. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said the infrastructure and housing approvals are part of a policy to strengthen Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria.
