Iran Warns Gulf States of Strikes on Energy Sites if U.S. Attacks Resume

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told his Saudi, Turkish and Qatari counterparts and Pakistan's army chief that any renewed American strike on Iran would be answered with attacks on critical infrastructure across the Gulf, according to two senior Iranian officials, two Gulf sources and a senior regional diplomat. Tehran's warning named energy facilities, refineries, electricity grids, water systems, transport networks and oil fields. It followed U.S. President Donald Trump's July 28 threat against Iran's energy network and his August 2 statement that he had cancelled a planned attack pending a rapid deal. Araqchi urged the Gulf states to press Washington against new strikes, saying Iran was ready to retaliate but preferred a diplomatic solution.
